You were probably right about Fedora. I have a microhobby of trying out linux distros and Fedora Core 1 was, as far as I could tell, RH9 tweaked. I had all of the workstations in my house on SuSE 8 and liked it fairly well, but the restlessness grew and I went on to RH9. I'm holding there until Fedora clarifies itself a little.

Always leave room in your heart to return to Debian.

I have been very close to dropping a server because I couldn't get Samba to play nicely with the WinXP installation used at work. My solution at home was to get rid of the 'mixed' in the 'mixed network'.

Well, my husband would say so, at any rate. I still run Win2K so what do I know?

I would suggest that you install a copy of Webmin. It makes administering a whole lot of stuff, including SAMBA, vastly easier.

SAMBA requires users to have their own SAMBA accounts and passwords. Not realizing this is one reason why people often have trouble setting it up:) Webmin has a nice utility to sync. your Unix and SAMBA accounts.

Regarding editors. Have a look at JEdit from http://www.jedit.org It's written in Java and will run on both Linux and Windows.

Best wishes,

Ian.
