Riviera Maya Travelogue Started

A travel journalThe prologue and Day One have been posted from my trip to the Riviera Maya. This marks the start of a new travelogue, one that I hope to finish this time. :)
My past attempts at doing a travelogue haven’t been all that successful – I haven’t finished one yet. However, I hope to change things with this one. My goal is to post a new day to the travelogue each Friday, so if all goes well, I should have Day Two up by next Friday. That being said, I’ll be the first to admit that it may take longer than a week to get each day posted. Thus far, I’ve done 18 entries and 8,258 words and that’s just through Day One! Man, if I’m not one wordy bastard. ;)
Anyway, stay tuned because I’m going to have more to come in the following weeks, as well as photos from the trip as well. I shot over 400 total photos, so there’s a little pairing down that needs to be done before I assault share them to you.

Back From Across The Border

TravelogueWe made it back last night from the Rivera Maya all safe and sound. It was a fantastic trip and could not have gone better. I have a TON of photos as well as a bunch of entries for a travelogue. However, like anyone else returning from a weeks absence, there’s a lot of catching up I have to do work wise. As a result, it will be a few days before I can get the photos, or the travel notes posted.
Regarding the travelogue, as stated in my last entry, I was a little apprehensive about attempting another travelogue, but I will be attempting to complete one for this trip. My plan is to post a day at a time each Friday. Hopefully that will give me enough time to get each day written up since there was so much going on. :)
Tomorrow I should be back to my regular posting of normal entries as well, if I can get everything I need done caught up today, so until then, ¡hasta luego!

Hola From Mexico

SunsetMy wife and I are on vacation this week, so it looks like mashby.com will be dark for the duration. We return this coming Sunday and should be back to regular posting then.
As for a travelogue of our trip, I´m not going to promise anything. So far my success with Travelogues hasn´t been that great. I post a lot of stuff, but I never seem to finish them :P I will tell you this. If I complete the travelogue, then I´ll post it when it´s done.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great week and I´ll see you on the flip side. :)

Vacation = T Minus 7

A countdown at the number 7Ah, nothing quite like a vacation to get away from it all and kick back and relax. All you have to do is pack your bags and leave your cares behind. Of course if you run your own business, then it’s a little bit different experience getting ready to leave. In fact, if I had to be completely honest, it’s a gut-wrenching, night sweating, week long freak out. :O
This year Holly and I are going to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. It’s about an hour south of Cancún in the Yucatan peninsula and we’ll be staying at the Riu Playacar. It’s a 7-day trip and we leave this Sunday and return the following Sunday. According to the brochures, there’s Mayan ruins, monkeys on the beach and pirate ship lobster dinner cruises. It sounds absolutely wonderful, and I’m sure that it will be, but knowing that I’m going to be away for a full week is a little bit daunting to say the least.

I May Never Fly The Same Again

Have Portable DVD Will TravelI was ticked off when I arrived at the airport last week. My return flight had been entered by mistake and I was forced to leave the 2004 PalmSource Developer’s Conference a day early. It was a great conference and I was sorry that I had to leave so early. With airport security being so tight, I needed to ensure that I arrived in plenty of time to catch my plane. The 12:20pm flight I was taking was the last one Northwest offers out of San Jose. Sitting at the gate finishing up my early lunch, I looked at my watch and noticed that I had about an hour before the plane boarded. With an hour before boarding and 6 hours of flight time I was looking at a LOT of time on my hands. Coupled with the time was my feeling of exhaustion. The concentrated time I spent at PalmSource left me feeling overwhelmed. Normally I work on the plane, but my brain was fried. A little pissed and a lot tired I was wondering what was I going to do with all this time?

[QUE HERO MUSIC]InMotion Pictures To The Rescue!

I had seen InMotion Pictures kiosks in several airports, but I’d never really investigated them, so with an hour to kill, I decided to take a peek and see what the deal was. The concept is pretty simple, you can rent DVD movies and DVD players from a kiosk, watch the movie on your plane and simply drop of the movie and/or player and your next destination. And the price is reasonable too. The basic player rents for $12 and includes one movie; additional movies are $4. If you have a DVD player, then movie rentals are $5.

Kickin’ It At The Beach House

The Caplyso CottageEach year my in-laws go to the Florida pan handle for a little vacation. I started tagging along when I started dating Holly 15 years ago and it’s become a yearly oddessy. This year we’ve returned to Destin Pointe and the Calypso Cottage, a two story, 4 bedroom, 3 bath house that makes going to the beach like you’re living large.

I’ve created a travelogue of this year’s trip and the first two days have already been posted. You can find it at this link. I number each day and each entry, and the entries are dated and time stamped so it’s easy to keep track of what’s going on. We head back to Nashville tomorrow, but I’ll continue to update the Travelogue as time allows. I hope you like it. 8)
